Charity Crafting Update

So I posted awhile ago about running a charity crafting drive to collect hand-made medical play dolls and PICC line covers for a rehab center in Washington, DC. To date I've sent several PICC line covers to the rehab center.

For many children (and adults) using PICC lines is a frustrating affair, because every time you look at your arm there's a physical reminder of your illness that you also have to keep religiously clean to prevent infection. The Recreation Therapists at the pediatric center help children personalize their PICC line cover with decorations of the child's choosing, so that instead of seeing a physical representation of illness when looking at their arms, kids see something they've helped create.

The rehabilitative center is still desperately in need of medical play dolls of color, as currently their only remaining dolls (which kids use to help act out what a medical procedure will be like) are caucasian-appearing and most of their patients are children of color. It is a problem.

Here's my new *SPECIAL OFFER* with help from a Generous Yarn Donor. If you knit or crochet and lack of yarn is stopping you from participating in the charity drive, I will mail you a ball of yarn suitable for the project you want to embark upon. When you mail a completed item back to me, I will send you more yarn to knit or crochet charity crafts (see above) with assuming that I still have a supply. How's that for a great deal? Sewn Medical Play Doll Template - please leave off hair/eyes and make all one color out of machine washable brown fabric
Knitted PICC Line covers - please use machine washable fiber
Crocheted PICC Line covers - please use machine washable fiber; no pattern currently available
Sewn PICC Line covers - sewn material is not stretchy enough for this project, sorry! (Believe me, I tried.)

You should know that the crocheted picc line cover pattern is no longer there! (the link from ravelry is to a deleted blog.)

I could use that yarn offer. I will happily knit either PICC Line covers or medical play dolls, whichever you need more of.

Also that I forgot to say: I am still crafting things for obligatory holiday gifts, and then I am working on a no-reason pillow for my nephew (because he loves captain america and i can make a captain america pillow pretty easily! or at least, i think i can), and THEN I plan to do some dolls and whatever. I figure you will still need them by the time I get to them. And that's just when I'll be able to do them. So.

(though probably i'll get irritated at the pillow and doll it up a bit before going back to the pillow. no-reason things don't have a deadline.)

That sounds about right! The rehab hospital pretty much has an unlimited need for dolls...

I'd be happy to do PICC line covers (the dolls are beyond my skill level, sorry). Do you still need some?
