untonuggan: a drop spindle and the products of my first week of spinning (7 balls of yarn in various colors) (spinning week 1)

Yarn I am thinking of keeping; or experiments in natural dyes

I experimented with natural dyes for the first time the other night. (I used an aluminum pot so it would help set the color, rather than playing with some realllllly toxic metal in my kitchen.)

Here are the results...

Yellow handspun BFL dyed with turmeric
Approximately 40 yards of *very yellow* tumeric-dyed blue-faced leicester chunky-ish handspun wool.

Fawn handspun BFL dyed with tea
Approximately 67 yards of sort of antique-d/beige/fawn/off-white blue-faced leicester fingering-weight-ish handspun wool

I am kind of in love with both of them, so they will either be gifts or used by myself. I am thinking of doing some gradations of color in yellows/oranges/reds to experiment with different natural dyes, and then making a shawl out of them.

The second one I'm not so sure about, but it's just so soft and lovely...mmmmm...

Thanks to everyone who helped with the natural dyes advice!

P.S. All I can think is, I made those.

That yellow! *_____* The beige is nice enough, too, but really REALLY not my colour, haha.

STILL PRETTY AMAZING, THOUGH. :D

They both look great! <3 I think the beige is my favourite, though. ^-^ It looks like such a soft, gentle colour.

And that yellow. :O Look how vibrant and bright it is! XD

Those are so gorgeous. I'm finally able to not give a damn about other people's opinions on this, and--beige is my favourite colour! So there. And that's a very fine shade you've got there. :}

Gorgeous!

If you're looking for more color inspiration, think about different flower colors you like - zinnias tend to have gorgeous shades, for example. What colors combine well in flower boxes / flower arrangements will also likely combine well on people. :o)

Those are gorgeous! The yellow is so vibrant, and the pinky-beige (...on my screen, anyway) looks so soft and gentle!

That yellow is just amazing - so bright! The second one is tea-dyed? I really love the colour of tea-dyed stuff - very soft but deep.

Holy cow! You need shades for that Yellow!

And that beige is nice too. But I've been into neutral colors lately.
