Kitty pics!

Chance the kitty
Pictured: Chance, an adorable black kitty with green eyes, laying on his side on a blue and white quilt like, "Huh, why are you disturbing me?" Part of the quilt is folded over the lower half of his body

This is why I've been having trouble getting out of bed in the morning. (I mean, aside from the 6 am feeding upon which I stumble back to bed and sleep for a bit longer.) Chance comes and snuggles up next to me with Partner on the other side and I am in a sandwich of warmth and cute cat love and how could I move? Plus when I had a dog I could say things like, "Do you want a treat in the kitchen?" and then he would move and food would commence. Chance does not yet know these words, and so he gives me dirty looks when I attempt to move out from the middle of the sleeping loved ones.

Chance the kitty
Pictured: Chance peering over the staircase railings towards the basement. There is, amusingly, a monkey mask in the frame behind him. This was not on purpose but is appropriate. The photo is slightly blurry because while he does this *all the time*, whenever I try to take a photo he runs downstairs to see me. (This is because he is a spy cat and I will blow his cover, I think.) When I go into different rooms downstairs (particularly the laundry room, but honestly any place with a door), he will reposition himself and sometimes peer uncomfortably far over the railing to see what I am doing.

Video of Chance exploring his new slow feeder. He actually really enjoys the puzzle of getting the food out, rather than hating us for slowing down his eating. This is good, because usually he eats super fast and then goes to yodel to Amelie outside her door while she is eating. With this sometimes she finishes first. *gasp*!

Oh, neat! I've heard of slow feeders, but had never actually seen one before. ^_^

Love the slow feeder! We have two different kinds for one of our dogs (the other one gets the majority of his food during training right now, so it's pretty slow right there!)

There was an article in our newspaper by a local animal behaviorist in which she said that having your pet (I think she was mostly talking about dogs, but it makes sense for cats, too) have to "work"for their food makes perfect sense, and they enjoy it, since that's what they evolved to do. Not necessarily that dogs had to sit or stand or come in order to get a bowl of kibble, but that there was *work* involved, and training is work, and makes their brains do stuff, and then they get rewarded with food! Much more satisfying than just having food "appear." (I will say that having food just be there worked *great* for some of our dogs and cats; I think it depends a lot on how feeding works in your household, and whether free feeding is an option! It's not at all an option for us right now, but it has been in the past. :) )

He's adorable! Lucky my kitties are always STAAAAARVING in the morning or I'd never get up either!
