NaBloPoMo Day 7: Poetic interlude

A poem inspired by anniversaries and autumn and EMDR and, ultimately, PTSD.

What is it about autumn light?
by [personal profile] untonuggan

What is it about autumn light
Delicious deciduous drops, golden dew
Soft and sinuous, snakelike
With fangs that pierce memories
Of other autumns, hidden griefs
Memories flooding back too quickly for arks or olive branches:
His beard, rough and prickly
Against tender young skin--
Forgotten until I passed the grasses sighing
Sighing in the wind and glowing
Glowing bright flames in the cold autumn light

::APPLAUSE::

I love your poem, and I so nearly didn't read it because of the warnings on the cut! Thank you for sharing.

It is this about autumn light:
leaves falling in rains of fire,
as all life falls to earth in death,
flames banked as brown mulch,
a dull blanket of time passing.
While out of sight, infinitesimal,
darkness seeps upwards:
browned leaves turn black
as microbes make compost
unseen until the surface cracks,
crazed by returning spring growth.

Sorry my response is so trite compared to your poem but it's a midnight quickie. (Why do scars always ITCH so much while they heal, huh? ::rhetorical question::) I don't know without checking if American English uses "crazed" meaning "cracked" like "crazy paving"? Too late to google until (my) tomorrow. ::sleepyhead::

Oof, very effective; really effective command of imagery. Thank you for sharing.
