He and Sarge chose each other

So I haven't made this widely known, but I have basically wanted a cat of my own for about a decade, and my partner grew up a cat person (Rogue and I helped teach her dogs are amazing). It has not been feasible for various reasons. However, right now is a really good time to get a cat if we are going to (before a new puppy enters the house, so the new puppy becomes used to cats).
Um.
So there have been various conversations of yes/no/maybe and variations on these with those that we live with (my folks) and basically, WE ARE GETTING A KITTY.
We were thinking that the search might take awhile, because we had a fairly long list of personality traits and such that we were looking for, like being good with dogs and letting a person trim his/her claws without removing many layers of skin. Also being somewhat cuddly, for definitions of "the way that cats are cuddlers" versus "the way that dogs are cuddlers".
The other week when we were taking Sarge to the pet store to pick out Yet Moar Toys, we passed in front of the "rescue cat" section as Sarge lives with his own kitty (Koshka). There was one cat there who Sarge wanted to sniff, and the cat and Sarge touched noses through the plexiglass and also touched paws. It was very cute, and we were also impressed that he didn't flip out about the annoying puppeh. Then the cat did a biiiiiiig stretch on his cat perch and fell off into his litterbox, whereupon his sister (in the next room thingy) came over and was like, "What just happened" so then they sniffed through the wall.
Our main concern with him, if he was as awesome as he seemed to be, was just that he and his sister were not a bonded pair (because we wouldn't want to split them up).
Anywho, we kept kind of making up excuses to go to the pet store to stroll by his window and see if a volunteer was there to let us in and see him, but alas, we had to wait until the weekend. So we went yesterday with our adoption paperwork "just in case" and talked to the woman who runs the organization and basically...he's amazing. His name is currently Charlie, but as my dad had a brother named Charlie and we already know someone with a cat named Charlie, we thought we would change his name to Chance as he's young enough to adapt to the change.
He's about a year old, and has been in foster care (at times with three large dogs! who he liked!) for most of that time.
