A day of crafting and jellyfish glory
Oct. 20th, 2013 12:12 pmYesterday was glorious. Today I am in pain, but it's worth it even though I can't go to a cool festival. Perhaps thinking I could was overambitious. Perhaps yesterday was overambitious, but I do not care.
I started the day with a trip to the fiber guild meeting, which I left early due to Other Plans. Basically, I stayed for the business meeting enough so that I could figure out what new news was happening with the guild craft sale in December. Woot. I have labels for things now.
Next I went with partner (my driver and compatriot for the day) for lunch and some resting/bumming around before a trip to the charming
jelazakazone 's for a crafty party. What was more remarkable, my introvert partner actually went to the party too. And the streams were thus crossed, and the world did not explode, and it went well. jelazakazone's daughter did not want partner to leave, in fact, because they were making books about sharks. We also had fun visiting with other people and yay.
I got quite a bit of knitting done at the guild meeting and riding around and at the crafty party. Did I work on things for the craft sale? Well, sort of. I think the spinning might go to the sale. The knitting I did was mostly for me.
I am making the Tempest Cardigan at the moment (which I plan to follow with the monomania cardigan using some of the leftover yarn mwahahaha).
Here's some WIP photos from the back panel of Tempest:

a close up of gray/silver and sea green stripes. yes they are kind of Slytherin colors. No that was not on purpose, but as I'm basically married to a Slytherin, I'm fine with that.

For scale, here's the width of the tempest cardigan back panel (roughly 19.5" I think for the size I'm doing, not sure exactly.) I had to weigh it down with other objects to stop the stockinette from curling. Good thing the finished cardigan has a garter stitch border to stop the curling, huh?
Also also, I am doing a lot of spinning on my NEW SPINDLE which I got because I lost a spindle I'm fond of. Murphy's Law of Spindles stated that as soon as I got the new spindle I would find the old one. It was right. That is okay, because I love the new spindle and the yarn it produces. It's a finer yarn (because lighter spindle). I made a high-twist two ply shown finished in this photo, along with the very full spindle and another ball of one ply from this spindle. I'm planning on plying them together to make a longer ball of 2-ply. (The hank shown finished here is from a single ball that I plyed from both ends of the ball, which resulted in gorgeous but not very long yarn.)

Finally, as if that was not enough excitement for the day, my in-laws (by which I mean my partner's mom and her aunt) called and asked if we wanted to go out for dinner at a delicious restaurant. I was hungry. YES.
While we were there, we saw some people carrying giant fabric jellyfish on sticks, some of which were illuminated. Partner's aunt asked them if it was for something in particular (a jellyfish festival?), but it was merely to make people smile. It worked. It's called the Jellyfish Project, apparently. Pictures for you!

Several people carrying fabric jellyfish (see above for description) while onlookers ogle and take pictures.

We had SO MUCH FUN with you guys. I am glad your partner came and the crossed streams didn't make anything explode! DD2 loved chatting with her and it was good to have someone engage her so I could chat with everyone else.
Thanks for coming. <3 <3

SO MUCH FUN INDEED. We really enjoyed ourselves and partner was glad she got to interact in an introvert-y-ish way with the rest of us and have it be okay. I really enjoyed seeing you and
