Super Sekkrit September Knit Revealed
Oct. 25th, 2013 05:24 pmIn September I set about a very hard project for me. I would knit a super sekkrit project that I wasn't keeping secret/sekkrit from people I knew in person -- it was for one of my online friends. Therefore, I had to maintain absolute radio silence about my project not only throughout its creation but also until I finally sent it off to the wonderful
jjhunter in October.
Oh, the suspense. How would jj like it? Was I using the right colors? I sent a mysterious email inquiring about jjhunter's favorite colors (and the air speed velocity of a coconut bearing swallow, to throw her off the scent :P ).
In the end, I just had to trust my instincts and luck. She was fortunately very detailed and liked several colors, which let me play with color. She also sent an example of a green she liked, and Lo, I had a yarn in that very color in my stash.
And of course, because this was for a very dear friend, there had to be handspun worked into the shawl to give it extra texture and squishiness and warmth and love.
I resorted to showing my progress to the dear people at my local yarn store, as I couldn't share with my dreamwidth circle.
Until now.

above, top, the supper sekkrit triangular shawl rests on a blue bench. it is draped across the bench, and there are V-shaped stripes in a variety of stitches in blues, greens, purple, and cream, with an edging of ruffled blue and green variegated yarn. The photo below shows a close-up of the shawl, which shows some of the rows with simple lace more clearly.
In addition to the Super Sekkrit September Shawl (and, you know, preparing for the holidays and the guild show) I'm now scheduled to work on a collaborative project. It involves Alpacas as a general theme.
I spun this Alpaca fiber to prepare:

I am so excite. Now if maybe my body would give me a break and stop hurting, that would be great.

I actually am completely unsad about the massive weather jump, because I am now wearing BOOTS and I think it is full-time already and that's lovely because I love my boots, in part because I love my tall socks (and yes, I could wear those without boots, but I don't, for reasons I don't even know). and I love moving into my winter jacket. I am slightly sad for missing the arm warmers season, but my fingerless gloves are still practical for a bit, and I really adore scarf season. Also, I keep hoping it will get cold enough that I will not look ridiculous in my Russia-hat. (i forget the actual name for it. but i love the color/s i used, and okay, i love earflaps, i love tying things to my head, i just want to wear it and not look like someone who doesn't understand weather! or, more importantly, have my head spontaneously combust from the heat of it.)
whaaaaaat my browser does not think "combust" is a word. (it also does not like being called bowser. oh well. i like bowser.)
CLEARLY IT IS BEDTIME FOR PIP. good night!

I like the cooler weather somewhat, just...where did the in-between go? But perhaps if I had BOOTS I would feel differently. They just do not agree with my feet, in general. I have hobbit feet (tm).
<3 hope you slept well!

Date: 2013-10-26 09:01 am (UTC)The alpaca looks awesome, too, though it looks silver-grey on my monitor, not beige. Oh computers. Is it soft? It looks really soft. :x
*snughuggle* Behave, Liz' body! >:

Date: 2013-10-26 01:20 pm (UTC)Oh computers indeed. The alpaca is super soft and also induces purring in me. I may have rubbed it on my face a couple of times while I was taking breaks in spinning. ahem.
*hugses* hope both our brains also behave as well! <3 <3 <3

Date: 2013-10-26 01:26 pm (UTC)Also, ALPACAS. And maybe yaks and puppies too. E was pretty sad last night, so I'm hoping that tomorrow can be a good squee session and a good distraction for her b/c ALPACAS:D :D
Boo on body hurting. *sigh* I wish I could wave a magic wand over you. :::hugs:::

Date: 2013-10-26 01:34 pm (UTC)*briefly wonders about spinning dog hair for puppies, but decides that is officially Too Much Work* (because I don't have carders. although wait, I could borrow the drum carder from the guild....but...yeah, still too much work...)
ALPACAS and yaks yes. Today I am going to pull a bunch of fiber out of my stash so I can bring it over tomorrow and we can ogle it and pet it.
Body hurting boo indeed. I think you and my mom would both have to fight for that magic wand, because that is what she always says when I'm hurting. :) *hugs*

Date: 2013-10-26 01:42 pm (UTC):D :D I am all about textures!
Well, don't spin it all! We might want some raw fibers to work with too! I also have some colored roving we can play with.
LOL. I am such a mom sometimes. <3 <3
