I've put off any plans to move to the UK (most of my maternal extended family lives in Yorkshire or across the border into Lancs) ever since I visited at Christmas and felt my mood plummet due to crazy early sunsets. (Not to mention my actually being awake to see the sunrise, which is a minor miracle at my latitude.) Last time I went (in February) I invested in a mood light and that helped, but I'm still unsure about the British winters...
I think my aunt also called me a "cheeky monkey" when I last made a joke about the lack of sunlight in the UK. ("On a clear day, you can see from here to X." "So about every decade?")
Yay Yorkshire! I love the dales....Also, I don't know how often you go to York, but if you eat meat then you must go to the Punch Bowl sometime for me and eat one of their Steak and Ale pies. They are DIVINE, omg, and I usually only get one once ever 3 years or so (based on how often I'm in York).
In the depth of winter, sunlight is usually from 7 am to 5 pm (morning times are a little sketchy as I'm never up then). At midsummer, it's roughly 5 am to 9 pm. Or, if you want to get all scientific, you can check here.
I'm also kicking myself now for not having learned to knit earlier, because I could have gotten some excellent yarn whilst in the UK.
