I finished my first hat!!!
Oct. 12th, 2011 10:27 amI'm so excited! Finished the hat for my uncle, and it is gorgeous. Pics to follow, I promise! And I used double-pointed needles successfully for the last few rows. Although I was super-anal-retentive and used needle guards on the ends of needles not actively in use so that I wouldn't drop any stitches. I'm not sure exactly how I did it, or if the method was the best one...but I got it done! So that's what counts.
It was so fun that last night I immediately cast on to another hat in the same pattern last night. I'm using some Paton's Chunky Tweed (or some such name) that looks like red yarn that's been attacked by confetti. Theoretically, it is for my high school theater teacher who likes that sort of thing. Looking at it, though, I think it would also be good for one of my nephews. I'm worried that it's running small, because I decided to live dangerously and not do a swatch. However, it's hard to tell the first few rows since the stitches are kind of scrunched on 16" circular needles. So perhaps it will be for one of my nephews, and I'll use even crazier yarn for my former theater teacher.
As my partner said, it'll fit somebody.
Edit: and here's the photo of hat numero uno

Date: 2011-10-13 02:07 am (UTC)Worked more on the hat today and then cast on for a knitting bag because (a) I need one, obviously, and (b) I wanted to play with different stitches. (I was going to do a particular stitch, decided all the counting would drive me crazy, and settled on mistake stitch with a garter stitch border...but anyway.)
Also, I'm picking up a knitting history book from the library. Because yes, I am an addict. Just maybe.
