There have been some requests for yarning photos, so here goes. It's been awhile since I played with my iphone camera and I find spring light weird (there's leaves but also not much leaves, and the angles change, and and and)...but I have decided to release perfectionism.

A pile of four skeins (three colors) of yarn which I did not dye myself, but I did spin on my drop spindle(s). From left to right: a purple blend that was a gift from someone awesome (there are three more samples to play with!); a green/blue/gray blend from a LYS that's all spun up, but some went to my mom because it made a perfect border to her wingspan shawl; a purple/gray blend whose colorway is called "Rogue" from the same maker as the green blend (I have another batch on the spindle that needs to be skein'd and thwacked/fulled).

Another view of the above, this time with the colors going top to bottom.

A skein of handspun blue and purple Malabrigo merino (I believe the colorway is called something along the lines of "whale road"). This was more challenging to spin, and I still have some on the spindle, because merino top does not draft easily even on the fold. I do like the way it's spun up though, even as a single. Maybe even especially as a single, though I do know someone who insists it will pill. (I don't really care though :P)

A close up of the Malabrigo "whale road" (?) merino handspun.

Despite the fact that due to a period of not-being-able-to-spin-yet-finding-cool-fiber, I have a nice stash of spinning fiber, I could not resist Three Feet of Sheep (Three feet of 11 different colors of merino spinning fiber on a rainbow gradient, approximately 8 oz.). Seriously -- do you realize the many fun ways this could be spun? Particularly if one incorporated a cream or other neutral color? Or one could just go -- nope, IT'S RAINBOW PRIDE TIME. Anyway, I promised
geeksdoitbetter a photo, so here ya go. :D (It's by Frabjous Fibers, btw.)

Who says I don't need more yarn? This was on sale and it's gorgeous and it comes pre-beaded. Also it's part silk, which means it will be...better for knitting in summer? Also it's delicious and I wanted it and 40% off. And I'm thinking of using it for holiday knitting, which means I'm planning ahead. Yes. ;) (It is separate skeins of blue and gray/silver yarn with clear glass beads incorporated into the fiber.)

This is the shawl I am working on when I am frustrated/stumped by my cape and/or I'm in the car and need something that doesn't require a cable needle or take up my entire lap and need room for charts and a row counter. Yes. The yarn was initially going to be a cardigan, but I picked a pattern that was all stockinette and that ruined that plan. (I was doing okay except for the purling rows and then I wanted to stab someone). So instead it is going to be a 3/4 hap shawl, which starts with garter stitch in the sea green color and then moves to feather and fan lace in the gray/silver with rows of the sea green interspersed. The shawl is 3/4 of a square, which means it will fall about the shoulders in a way that is less likely to fall off. I am a fan of this. The designer also designed the color affection shawl pattern.

These are some of the redunkulously awesome stitch markers I got the other day in WV. They are also made by a twelve-year-old. One is of a tetris piece (the L-shaped one), the other is of the invincible star from Super Mario Brothers. I also have other tetris pieces and a Kirby one, because I wanted to encourage her to make moar video game stitch markers. :D

This is the "Covetable Cabled Cape" WIP so far. It is big, see? Not a car-knitting project. But oh so fun and SQUISHY. It is a purple-y blue knitting project on a 60" cable needle resting on an outdoor garden bench (and taking up the entire garden bench). As it is knit from the top down, there are no pieces to sew on later aside from the pockets. Also, I will need to pick up stitches for the collar. But other than those, basically one piece. (Button bands are included in the original knit, you see!). *is excite* This photo is more true-to-color than the other two, though still not quite right.

A close-up of the double-vine lace that goes down the arms of the cape. It will probably look even better when blocked.

A close-up of the cable that goes down the back of the cape. I am so utterly proud of this cable. It has caused several tinkings and one starting-over, and there have been dropped stitches and yes. But woo! Um, I don't have a good description for it as I think it's just called something like "wide cable", but most knitters I've talked to describe it as "complex" and I would agree. There are going to be panels of this cable on the front pockets.
And that has been your catch-up on All The Yarning that I can remember being up to lately. :D

Date: 2014-04-28 02:31 pm (UTC)Thank you for compliments! I am very excited about the cape. Everyone seeing me knitting it in person goes "that is going to be /so warm/" and I go "yes well it's more like a jacket-cape you see..." (also eeee that cable so excite but sometimes I want to stab it).
