Promised puppy picspam

Please note that it is very hard to photograph a moving puppy, and the lighting in my kitchen (where he tends to be less movement-y) is terrible. :D Also, um, ALL THE PICTURES so beware low bandwidth. Heh.

One of my early Sarge pictures when he was smaller. He will get even bigger-er. He is a black and white hound or pointer or some kind of mix puppy (at this age, about 11 weeks), curled up on a mat with dogs on it on a white/cream tile floor next to some dog bowls, asleep on top of a dog toy.

This is a frequent Sarge position known as "what is walking, I prefer to slither on the grass and also eat it and maybe chew my leash." He is slightly older/bigger-er in this photo, lying on the grass and staring at the camera, and definitely *not* doing anything resembling "going for a walkies."

Similar to previous, but slightly different angle so you can see his beautiful green-brown eyes. Um, I did say picspam right?

We usually don't use flexi-leads but this is in a park with a huuuuuge grassy area that is nowhere near cars, so we put Sarge on a flexi and threw a frisbee a bunch of times to get him some outdoor exercise. He was a fan. Here is him running after the frisbee. (There was also some human running involved, too. Note to self: on a warm day, liz should not be the one who runs even once, or there will be POTS flares later.)

This is a picture I was trying to take of Sarge carrying the frisbee, but he walked out of the shot so it's just his butt. I am posting it anyway, because puppy butt! And you can also see how long and thin his tail is. Partner and I call these kinds of tails "tails of death" because when they wag vigorously against your leg they can be painful, and they are capable of clearing coffee tables. :)

Look, Sarge is rassling a frisbee in the grass! Even better than just rolling around with his leash.

More frisbee gnawing, Sarge lying on his side and really getting his teeth into it.

A front shot of Sarge in pursuit of the frisbee; he is also covered in grass clippings. Much gnawing.

Sarge lying on the grass and holding the frisbee in the side of his mouth. (I had to get a lot of these shots because the running shots were blurs or just plain terrible.)

Frisbee ignored, because someone new walked up behind Sarge and he is looking over his shoulder. If he sees a new person, child, or dog he makes a beeline towards them because MUST SAY HI NEW FRIEND YOU ARE INTERESTING TO SMELL AND SAY HI TO. HI.
He has a great temperament, did I mention? We think his foster home must have been great. :)
Things he has learned:
- sit
- off (in the process, but is workable if he is chewing something he's not supposed to)
- come (in process, kinda sloppy if distracted but we are practicing :D )
- that leashes are maybe not the enemy
- that people are soft and squishy and should not be eaten (still being reinforced, but there are times when he is about to sleepily move from chewing a toy to mouthing a person and then stops and thinks and moves back to the chew toy)
- not to guard his food bowl, because if we come and touch it we might put extra food in it
Things we are working on and going to start working on:
- loading the clicker (for clicker training)
- holding his collar/harness and giving him a treat (so that if he ever escapes, people can catch him. speaking as someone who has caught/attempted to catch many stray/loose dogs, this is something so nice for dogs to know zomg.)
- that jewelry is not edible (I am going to wear a necklace I don't like next week so he'll try to chew it, and then we will work on correcting that behavior. decided earrings would be too painful to start with.)
- better recall
- I think there were a couple other things but I forget
That is all for today's puppy digest. :D
