Generosity...Karma?
Apr. 16th, 2011 12:13 pmPeople have been so nice to me lately. I thought I'd catalogue it here for future reference (the days the sneaky hate spiral starts). I don't really believe in karma (even though I'm Buddhist), but the generosity just seems to pay forward.
Hope you get some of the same!
- At the Cherry Blossom festival, people were selling kimono-fabric tulips for $5 each to raise money for the Japanese Red Cross. We bought three and made a $5 donation.
- We bought a gorgeous lamp at the festival - I'll have to post a picture. We asked the seller/creator if they took credit, and she apologized and said they didn't. She gave us $5 off the price to compensate.
- Several times over the past week I've paid with cash, and sometimes I haven't had any change. Every time (3 times!) it's been around $1.01 or $7.05 and I haven't had change, the teller has told me I don't need to provide the change.
- I got a free cookie from our local baker.
- I'm trying to make our basement home more cheerful, and I recently asked on freecycle if anyone had an extra mirror lying around. Not only did I get a mirror, a very nice person gave me a 90-year-old antique mirror that looks stunning (and matches our furniture). She offered two other cool mirrors, but they were too heavy to attach to our walls.
- I posted a number of things on freecycle.
- I went to Goodwill on a whim and found a print that's absolutely gorgeous (and new). When I got home I found out there were two prints by the same artist in the cellophane. I paid $1 for both.
- I went to lunch with a former teacher of mine, and I paid for both of us because he forgot to bring his wallet in from the car. He paid me back, but neither of us had change. So he gave me enough money to cover his lunch, my lunch, and a little extra. Because he is nice.
