Adventures in Chalk Paint, Part 2
Jun. 11th, 2012 12:17 pmI think I posted about my first adventures in Chalk Paint over on
crafty without posting it here, but anyway, it's addictive stuff to play with. No sanding! Sticks to just about anything, so no priming! Anyway, it's also really good therapy for brain weasels, because you can just focus on each stroke of paint...and on not missing spots...and on making sure you get all the wax in all the grooves when the second coat of paint is dry. This table took me two days, mostly because of waiting for things to dry and because I was trying to give my body a break.
I also didn't distress this piece, not because I didn't yearn to, but because my mom liked how it looked without the distressing. And also, after I had covered the leg crannies with paint and/or wax three times I wasn't eager to wax them yet again. So I suppose it was win/win.
My mom got it from an estate sale about 30 years ago, and so it understandably has some dings in it. It needs refinishing, but in case you didn't notice there are a lot of little things to sand down if you were going to refinish it. We're pretty sure it's mahogany and about 80 years old (according to a neighbor who has an identical table that her grandparents bought), so maybe it's sacrilege to paint it, but it was a lot of fun.
( Four small photos below the cut... )
I think more Adventures in Chalk Paint will involve different colors and will have to wait until after the move. However, there will be more! There are three small nesting tables my mom wants done next, and I also want to do our dresser once my partner and I can settle on a color.
