untonuggan: Lily and Chance squished in a cat pile-up on top of a cat tree (buff tabby, black cat with red collar) (yarn zen)
Here is what it looks like so far...

strips of fabric in browns, beiges, and golds (some batik!) sewn together to make longer strips, which are then placed next to each other. Basically short strips combine to make loooong strips, which are then sewn together on top of each other to make a quilt.

Here's some conceptual images of what I'm riffing off of in terms of construction; except the "quilting" part (i.e. the stitching on top) is probably going to be a bit...creative. And FUN. I may also applique a tree on top in green. Still deciding; I have fabric that's possible.

Here's a mini tutorial about the style of "strip quilts" (ha!) which kind of covers the description of how it's done, but not really completely? I mean, I have my fabrics in a grab bag and am pulling them out semi-randomly to decide which goes next. Fun times! Also cutting them irregular lengths so it's more interesting. Note that this placement of long strips may not stay, it's just what I've got so far. That's why they're not sewn together yet.
