Why we need better romantic tropes

On a more serious note after the list of guys in rom-com and media tropes post a few days ago,the Mary Sue just published an article about a study showing that watching some romantic comedies may make women more tolerant of stalking myths (e.g. “An individual who goes to the extremes of stalking must really feel passionately for his/her love interest.”)
The corollary study, about how such romantic comedies affect men's beliefs about stalking behavior, would also be very interesting.
(And I don't know how they define gender for the study, sorry, but it seems fairly binary and I also don't know if the design considered sexuality as a variable either.)
There's also a longer article on the Atlantic which I haven't had time to read yet.
