Who I am and what you'll find here
Mar. 26th, 2011 09:37 pmHi! I may have subscribed to your journal because you wrote something interesting that showed up while I was browsing dreamwidth or reading my network page. Perhaps you're reading this because you think I wrote something of note. Either way, welcome.
I try to avoid hate speech of any kind on my journal. If I slip up and say something heedless of my own privilege, please tell me - in a non-flaming way. These are teachable moments, not times to whack people over the head with a newspaper.
I could list an alphabet soup of identities, but suffice it to say thatI'm queer (with a wonderful partner of 8+ years, omg am I that old already?); a poet; I ride a recumbent trike; am somewhat obsessed with knitting and other fiber arts; have been taught "proper" grammar and now rebel against both standardized US spelling and the historical ideas behind proper grammar. I have an Etsy store and an extensive Flickr library of some of the things I've made...check out the sidebar for details. I have chronic Lyme disease and/or fibromyalgia and/or dysautonomia and a host of other physical issues, as well as some mental health stuff. Writing about that will probably be behind a filter, let me know if you want access. I am a Buddhist Pagan with atheist tendencies. I have a BA in History, but I decided that history is way too emotionally draining for me. (One summer researching lynching was enough for my brain.)
What else? I love dogs, reading, writing, history, feminism, my partner, drag shows, gender bending of any kind, Star Trek, Patrick Stewart, Yorkshire, the great outdoors, anything related to space travel, Neil deGrasse Tyson, public broadcasting...have recently begun to get addicted to the Avengers and Foyle's War.
Feel free to add me, I will probably grant you access after I get to know you a bit although I may not put you behind a filter immediately unless you specifically request it. I look forward to getting to know more people on dreamwidth and beyond!

Date: 2014-02-15 05:02 am (UTC)Since other people are telling you bits about themselves: I'm Canadian, mid-thirties, and a fannish wordgeek. I don't do anything at all crafty, but I benefit from and greatly appreciate my best friend's lovely knitting, so I'm happy to admire people's work. *g*

Date: 2016-07-17 07:13 pm (UTC)i also have chronic pain which is on my chart as fibro, might be EDS, but i feel ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ pretty much sums up all potential diagnoses. also i like the social model of disability better than the medical model, or better yet a blend? because chronic pain sucks and i don't really want to just embrace it, actual treatment that works would be good.
i knit and spin and also love admiring craft stuff. also the books and things, also pagan/humaist influences though i haven't really practiced formally for awhile because bad experience. also i am a big history nerd (it was my major). also cats, but before cats there were dogs. (i used to do agility! and lots of dog training! back when i could run and move equipment and stuff.)

Date: 2016-07-18 12:29 am (UTC)Understood. I don't know very much about chronic pain, and I will probably make mistakes. I will try to learn and not to place an undue burden on you to correct me.
>> which is on my chart as fibro,<<
Noted.
>> might be EDS,<<
Also noted.
>> but i feel ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ pretty much sums up all potential diagnoses.<<
Okay.
>>also i like the social model of disability better than the medical model, <<
This makes perfect sense to me.
>> or better yet a blend? because chronic pain sucks and i don't really want to just embrace it, actual treatment that works would be good.<<
A model of medicine that embraces creating good lives as opposed to fixing illness would include that possibility, I think...
(I'm responding to these specific comments to note something that is important about you that I don't fully grok and be sure I am paying attention.)
Just FYI
Date: 2017-04-28 12:31 pm (UTC)I'm kind of scattered at the moment, I recently imported my entries from LJ, but they're all "private" mode until I sort them out, which is kinda waiting on RL at the moment. I did actually flesh out my profile a bit today, so that might help, lol. :)
