First time back to sewing/quilting...

I finally got my sewing space set up...and then we had to move before I got a chance to sew anything. We are in the new place now (finally), but my crafting table is being used as an impromptu computer table. Today I just had such an urge to sew (after years of not doing much more than hemming pants) that I commandeered another table and set up the ironing board in the middle of the room.

I've been itching to try crazy quilting for ages. So I did:

12" x 12" crazy quilt block in purples, pinks, blues, and teals, mainly batiks I had in my stash:

I'm not sure what I want to do with it, though. I had planned to turn it into a throw pillow, but it doesn't really match the other rooms in my house and it's so distinctly "me in high school when I was buying lots of fabric" that I'm not sure who else would have a space for it in their house. But as a lap blanket, I bet I could find a spot for it...hmm...I do have lots of that fabric to use up...

There are still a few places I want to do some embellishments, mainly so I can secure a few angled edges that didn't get sewn down (the edges are just ironed under and pinned down). So I think I might play with that some and then see how I feel.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Hee, thank you. It's actually the same square just taken from different angles because I couldn't decide which way should be "up". ^_^

Hmmm...maybe, except I think I'd have to make it smaller, and while I could use the edges in a second pot holder, it's so pretty...I'm leaning towards a lap blanket I think...thanks for the suggestion though!

(This is kind of like polling people about whether you should have cake or pie for dessert, and everyone says pie, and you go, "Thanks, cake it is!")

*flail* It's so PRETTY! I've never been particularly talented wrt sewing, but my sister-in-law quilts and I think it's a very lovely form of art. Love the richness of color and pattern of the piece you've posted and hope you find good use for it.

Thank you! I'm really enjoying the freedom of "crazy quilting" because you literally take fabric, pick up the next piece that feels good, and sew it on whichever way feels right. Here are some good examples of finished crazy quilts if you're curious. It's much less rigid (and as I have issues cutting fabric to the right size, it's the perfect medium for me). It's kind of like finger painting and quilting all thrown together almost.

So pretty! I especially love that it looks like you can just put the fabric however you want, and it still ends up looking great.

That is the great thing about "crazy quilting"! OMG, I could go on about it for ages. I will resist. But there's different techniques, and it's really fun, and I haven't even taken photos of what I've done with this block with some simple embroidery on top. (Looks way cool!)
