First PICC line cover on its way...
Sep. 9th, 2012 08:57 amThe charity craft drive is still in full swing, in case you missed it!
My rec therapist friend (J) came over yesterday, and I gave her the first PICC line cover I had knitted in rather a hurry. It's going to a four year old who (understandably) really hates her PICC line and keeps pulling on it. J is very concerned that the next time she pulls on the PICC line, she will pull it out. Hopefully, the cover will both help block her access to the PICC line, be comfortable, and provide her with something to decorate as a Rec Therapy activity with J at some point. Plus, she'll keep getting the medicine she needs.
I'm now knitting a much smaller PICC line cover for someone with smaller arms. (The above child has a disorder which causes her to gain weight.) I found a stash of leftover Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino that should be perfect for a PICC line cover.
I won't be making any of the Medical Play Dolls, as I have a very special assignment from J. I am going to try to make a sweater (perhaps a cardigan) for a child whose arms are shorter than the average sweater's, and also don't bend easily. My plan involves having buttons around the top of the arm sleeve so that it's easier to fit his arms in. I may ask some of the knitters of dreamwidth for guidance on some of the tricky bits.
Thanks to everyone for their enthusiasm so far!
