Massive Spinning/Knitting Photo Post (beware for those on slow connections/data plans)

I finally am almost out of the fiber I initially got when I started spinning - about 11.5 oz of fiber total, and I have about 1 oz left. Well, except there is more in my future. *cackles maniacally* Srsly though, it is cheap when you consider how well it is treating me mentally.

So here's some eye candy, as folks have been asking:

I made this cowl with love and a minimum of frustration. It was a bit of a learning curve figuring out how to spin "top" yarn, which is much stronger...basically, it's combed rather than carded, so all the fibers go in one direction. You kind of have to pull a bit harder when you're drafting (or at least that's what I'm doing, I'm not sure if it's what you're supposed to do.) I made up the patterns sort of based on a combo of other patterns I'd seen using similar yarns. I like how they turned out. ^___^

And oh what needles they were! Zomg. Makes a fast knit, though, and super duper lightweight (because there's so much air.)

I am trying to figure out if I want to continue this scarf as is - I have enough yarn to finish it - or if it needs color or something. If I don't want to finish it, and I rip it back, I'm not sure if the yarn will like it. Is a conundrum. On the one hand, the texture is really pretty:

But on the other hand it's kind of...boring with just that color. It doesn't go with my coat. Maybe it is destined for another home? I dunno.

In terms of just spinning photos, here is one of some yarn I made for my mom:


dark purple single-ply homespun

Not super soft, but it's going into a shawl as a stripe so I think it will look awesome just for the texture.


A hank of blue and white 2-ply yarn and two small balls of single-ply, one blue and one white, which I later turned into a similar 2-ply yarn by twisting them together

And for those interested in plying, the above photo shows a before and after of some single ply yarn of two different colors and a 2-ply that mixes them together. Neat, no?

OK, I think that's enough bandwidth hogging for everyone for tonight! I knitted that last barber shop type yarn into something already, but I don't have a photo of it yet so it will have to wait. (Plus, it's going in the gift closet, so maybe I won't post photos for awhile :D)

Oh, wow, that cowl is GORGEOUS. As is that purple - it's so even, I'd never guess you've only just started spinning. The mauve (blue, you say? Looks mauve on my screen, though) and white one also looks fantastic. :D

I'm not sure about the scarf, either, but then I'm not a fan of grey. Mebe just make it a short scarf?

I'm thinking maybe seaming it together to make it a small cowl (I'm in a cowl mood) and saving the rest of the gray for projects unknown - probably something mixed with other colors, like maybe red. *g*

My opinion on the grey scarf: it looks like a scarf for someone who likes wearable art who is masculine-of-center. One of those things you would see as the centerpiece on a masculine look on The Sartorialist.

Quite possibly if T. wore it, it would never stay on him because I would jump him immediately. T. would never want it, though; he doesn't really have an interest in the way he dresses other than wanting a sense of order--an art scarf would drive him nuts.

Cowl and headband are both glorious.
