I finished knitting the calorimetry project I was working on! I still need to find an appropriate button for the back, but I am prepared once it gets cold enough that I need to wear one!

Now I have started on dishcloths...working on my first Grandmother's Favorite Dishcloth. I'm over halfway and have passed the point of "Oh God I'm not sure if the decrease looks right...am I doing something wrong?" I persevered, and now it is starting to develop the appropriate corners so I am relieved. (I figured if it didn't turn out right, I could still use it to clean dishes, right?)

The dishcloth thing is kind of addictive. I found a few more patterns I want to try, too. I also need to get some pink cotton so I can make some dishcloths for a pink-obsessed in-law.

Now I'm considering other projects. I really want to try doing something with plarn (yarn made out of plastic bags), but I'm afraid it will be frustrating and slippery and I'll want to shoot someone...still, I can always abandon it to make more dishcloths, right?

I'm also considering making something for my niece/nephew due in March. I was considering making a baby blanket, but my mom reminded me that when my brother's first child was born he got 17 baby blankets as presents. (Crazy, right?) So there might still be some of those sitting around. Since baby #3 is due in March in Seattle, the weather doesn't really justify warm baby clothes like hats and such. I think. I don't know that much about what babies are supposed to wear. So I was thinking maybe trying my hand at baby booties, or maybe getting really adventurous and knitting a toy suitable for an infant.

So I ask you, dreamwidth, what should I knit for the baby? (I can't  make a poll until I renew my paid account, so you'll just have to leave a comment with reasons)
  1. baby blanket. They can always use more, because they probably got rid of a bunch of the ones they got 6 years ago.
  2. baby hat. Still useful even in March in Seattle.
  3. baby booties. Get started knitting footwear!
  4. infant toy. You will enjoy the challenge!
  5. something else, which I will explain in the comments!

Baby booties! *goes to find patterns*

Also, bibs are nice.

Here is my recommendation for babies. Debbie Bliss is the best baby pattern designer ever. Her stuff is so adorable and fairly straight-forward and out of my 9 books of patterns, her 2 are the only ones I've actually knitted patterns out of. So, I would totally look at her books and consider buying one (or all). http://knitting-yarn.knitpicks.com/search?w=debbie%20bliss

Also, those cable socks (see Debbie Bliss link) are a great way to learn how to cable, make socks without the pain of knitting in the round, and are so adorable. They do have one unclear bit in them so if you decide to make them, holler and I will give you better instructions for that one line.

Do you know about Ravelry for finding patterns? That's usually my starting point.

Congratulations on finishing the headband! I'm glad it was an appropriate rec; as a non-knitter, all I know is that the headband is wonderful to wear. :)
