Midsomer Murders x Dr Who

Why does no one move from Midsomer? Why are only two bumbling yet affable detectives in charge of a string of seemingly unrelated murders instead of a giant task force full of forensics people? Why is it still seen as a pleasant destination?

The Doctor knows some deeper work must be at play. His only regret is that it has taken him so long to investigate...better get ready to RUN.

Of course. Of course. Midsomer has to be packed full of aliens! For a premise, there's a really amazing SF short - can't remember the author for the moment - where the plague wiping out humanity amounts to farmers wiping out rabbits with myxamatosis. (Sp? myxomatosis! I checked!) Leaving the planet vacant and ready for a profitable bit of realtor action...

A plague rendering humans susceptible and prone to a useful bit of homicidal mania, then. With Midsomer as a testing ground?

and maybe everyone who DOES try to investigate is convinced they are on the set of a television show, that no actual murders are being committed...

or perhaps it is some kind of chaos alien, who feeds off creating chaos and has no desire to kill off all the humans just wants to watch them run around killing each other. and is like "Oh come on Doctor, aren't you and I kind of similar?" and there is Awkward Conversation and also Doctor Yelling (like he does) and maybe a companion needs to pull him out (like they do).
