I love making things
Aug. 28th, 2012 08:32 pmToday I wore...
Next Sometime soon I want to try making myself a skirt.
holli has me excited about an idea, but I need to get the instructions as I am a bit fuzzy on them. (Boo, brain fog!) I also have dreams of tie dyeing undergarments so that I can be completely kitted out in things I have made/modded in some way. *plots* Also, now that it's beginning to get cooler, all I can think is, "I can wear my knitwear soon!"
Am also in the midst of revamping my Etsy store (it's still a WIP itself, but at least there are things there again). I have some exciting things planned. At least, I think they are exciting. Plus there is finishing to do for more walker accoutrements...
Basically, it's All The Crafting. Because when I get sick, I have to deal with it somehow. Plus, you know, creativity in general kicks ass.
I really want to go to a thrift store. I live near loads. My partner hates thrifting. /sigh
- a necklace I made myself (with paper beads I had made myself, too!)
- earrings I made myself
- a t-shirt I tie dyed myself
- socks I knitted myself
- with a walker partially yarn-bombed that I had done myself

Date: 2012-08-29 12:31 pm (UTC)I lack the talent to knit and the like so I'm always *terribly* impressed by crafty folk like yourself. I do like to make t-shirts though, mostly via creating iron-on transfers or sometimes just plain painting on them with fabric paint. I unfortunately don't think I have any examples to share, as it's been ages since I've done this and most have faded and been disposed of.
I do love making jewelry though - do you have any pics of your home-made paper beads? I have made a few necklaces working with stone and natural materials (tarantula fangs scavenged from exuvia, deer vertebrae, etc).

Date: 2012-08-29 01:49 pm (UTC)I suddenly had the thought of an army of lyme warriors hobbling through a thrift store, and it made me giggle.
Photos (sorry they are small):
Do you have any photos of your jewelry?

Date: 2012-08-29 04:08 pm (UTC)I'm very impressed by the t-shirt. I tried once to tie-dye a t-shirt, but it ended up rather splotchy and all the colors were too pale.

Date: 2012-08-29 10:26 pm (UTC)re: tie dye, Did you soak the shirt in soda ash before adding the dye? Apparently this is the secret, because it makes the fiber more receptive to the dye. It is also never in stock in the craft stores except for part of *some* of the kits, so I'm planning on ordering a big batch from one of their websites or maybe Amazon. (Just give me a darn 5 lb bag, store! That's all I ask!)

Date: 2012-08-29 11:58 pm (UTC)I think I'm going to start with the shells one. It's easy (they're all pretty easy though), and I'm totally spending the night in front of the TV (I am taking an extremely well-deserved night off schoolwork (with the bargain with myself that I will do a lot of work this weekend)) so I like something that doesn't take a lot of thought. And it is nice, and actually the warm one, that's a good one to save for later when it gets colder. You are therefore helpful!
Hmm, yarn. ooh I have a lot of this nice dark greyish-blue that's a Caron SuperSoft or whatever it's called, I do love the way that feels. also it's my favorite color. well, one of many. (and actually I bought it originally for some gloves that didn't work out, so that's sort of full circle, two years later! that's cool.)
(i like to ramble crafts, thank you for letting me ramble crafts at you!)

Date: 2012-08-30 01:49 am (UTC)Am currently taking a break for the night from a bag for the front of my walker(s). It is all kinds of awesome, just working on the mechanism for it to hang. I forgot how tiring it was to hand-do buttonholes. Maybe I should cave and get that buttonhole foot for next time...
Cannot wait to post photos, I am all kinds of excited.
Have decided not to do a schmancy finished liner, because what the hell. I think my seams will be fine. And it is being a pain in the ass.
