Smeegle's Seizure
poem by [personal profile] untonuggan

time stutters in fits,
space compresses memory
my body thrown back

what cause what cause we know not
despite whirring magnets' scans

consciousness push-pull'd
breath shoved out held rigid
fearful, helpless, stone

cold with terror, a lone thought:
hollow reminiscent of Him

afternoon on stairs
stone stairs full of pain and terror
my body, not mine

so long ago but the body
hoards memories like Smaug's gold

perhaps once taken
poor Smeegle turns to Golum
not knowing her plight

I want to cast my cold ring
into a volcano, be gone

back to beloved
Shire of safety and spirits
back to my self's home

I find this very powerful. Yes! We definitely hold memories in our bodies, in our muscles. I hope this was cathartic for you. It's so evocative of that loss of control we have at times (I've never had a seizure, but I have fainted) and how fractured perception/reality becomes in those moments of terror (not that they are related).

Very well done, though I'm sorry for the feelings and experiences it sprung from.
